Raymond Charles has more than 12 years of extensive legal experience in areas of banking, corporate, real estate and dispute resolution and heads the Banking & Finance practice group.
He has extensive experience in executing real estate related transaction for some of the major developers and financial institutions in Malaysia. Raymond has represented financial institutions and corporate borrowers in various Islamic & conventional banking and financial transactions.
He also has extensive experience representing and advising corporate and individual clients in dispute resolution primarily in areas of insurance related litigation, corporate matters, landlord and tenant disputes, construction disputes and other related commercial matters.
Notable Accomplishments & Transactions
Advised, negotiated and structured a highly complex commercial loan for a large diversified property developer for the acquisition, construction and refurbishment for a Wyndham branded hotel. Representation in the value of RM 45 million.
Advised and represented a large boutique real estate developer in various aspects of real estate laws and regulatory compliance relating to conveyancing, commercial & retail debt, real estate tax, stamp duties, real estate property gain tax (“RPGT”) and government service tax (“GST”) for development of residential and commercial properties with gross development value ("GDV”) of RM 3.5 billion.
Successfully defended a suit in a highly complex probate matter where the executor prayed for the transfer of the estate’s land worth RM 15 million to a 3rd Party and to develop the land by demolishing a temple on the land. Conducted research on the law and asserted on the point of Plaintiff’s locus and estate distribution leading to the Plaintiff withdrawing the suit.
Advised and represented a Malaysian based private limited company in the human capital and training business in a complex corporate restructuring through the execution of share sale agreement and swap.
Advised, negotiated and executed a franchise agreement for an Australian private limited company for its healthy yoghurt drink operations in Malaysia.
