Former PUNB execs acquitted of falsifying US$5b bond

Our lawyer, Mr Goik Kenzu, together with Datuk Seri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, represented Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad's (PUNB) former CEO Ahmad Zukni Johari who was charged with falsifying bond certificates valued at US$5 billion (RM 20 billion) in 2000.

After an eight-year trial, Judge SM Komathy Suppiah of the Sessions Court acquitted the former PUNB CEO, Ahmad Zukni Johari, and his co-accused Mohamad Aminuddin Zain the former PUNB secretary.

After the acquittal Mr Goik Kenzu stated “I am pleased that our client was acquitted and discharged by the honorable Judge Komathy based upon the facts and evidence we presented during trial”.

The former PUNB CEO Ahmad Zukni Johari testified during the trial of his working relationship with the then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was then the chairman of the board of trustees of Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputera, which wholly-owns PUNB, and their intent to raise an estimated RM16 billion for PUNB to undertake four mammoth projects.
