Businesswoman claims trial to theft of computer files

KUALA LUMPUR: Businesswoman Datuk Gee Siew Yee pleaded not guilty in a Sessions Court here with allegedly accessing a computer without authorisation.

Gee, 56, allegedly committed the offence with intent to access three files pertaining to Taman Perdana Royal Club meetings that were stored in a computer owned by an IT manager, Brian Periera, 32.

She allegedly committed the offence at the club between 8am and 5pm on Sept 29, 2015.

Charged under Section 3(1) of the Computer Crime Act 1997, Gee is liable to a maximum RM50,000 fine or a maximum of five years’ jail, or both, upon conviction.

Gee claimed trial after the charge was read to her before judge Zaman Mohd Noor yesterday.

DPP Noor Jazilah Mohd Yushaa urged the court to set bail at RM8,000.

Gee’s counsel Mr Ramesh Sivakumar, of Goik Ramesh & Loo, asked for a RM 5,000 bail in one surety, saying that Gee would attend all court proceedings.

Judge Zaman allowed bail of RM 5,000 and fixed May 18 for case mention. Gee posted bail.
